Last Hope

This Artist Feature highlights a TGR fave! Paramore is a popular rock band who debuted in 2004 and still make successful music today. The band makes music that speak on various topics such as love, heartbreak, and the realities of life (even the harsh ones!) While all of their songs stand out in their own way, one song in particular carries an emotional and powerful message, and has been a personal TGR favorite over the last few years.

Paramore’s song, “Last Hope”,  holds an important message on hardship and hope, addressing that although we may feel down and like nothing is getting better, allowing ourselves to hold out hope and “let it happen”, we can come out stronger in the end. The band sets up an emotional tone throughout the song, starting out with a slow acoustic tune, and gradually picking up in speed and instrumentation, which is representative of the song’s lyrics becoming more optimistic as it progresses.

For example, verse 1 of the songs states lyrics such as,

I don’t even know myself at all

I thought I would be happy by now

Then later, the lyrics become more positive, such as in verse 3

And the salt in my wounds

Isn’t burning anymore than I used to

It’s not that I don’t feel the pain

It’s just I’m not afraid of hurting anymore

And the blood in these veins

Isn’t pumping any less than it ever has

And that’s the hope I have

The only thing I know that’s keeping me alive

Both the song’s message and the band’s musical choices is what makes “Last Hope” a work of art, making it unpassable to share in this Artist Feature. Be sure to listen to Last Hope and check out Paramore’s music below!
